The Curtain Is Up

Mercury Retrograde has been in full effect for the last three weeks, and July’s energy may have been inward-looking for many of us as a result. But this week, the energy turns outward, and we start to see that the last three weeks may have just been preparing you for a more visible phase.

Mercury retrograde can often feel like a malfunction, and Cancer season can feel like regression: why am I back in this grief, this kitchen, this conversation with my mother?

But the return may be part of the work. Cancer asks what home, safety, and belonging mean. Leo asks how we express ourselves once we know what supports us. The past few weeks may have been repetitive, private, and at times unglamorous. They may also have clarified the conditions you need in order to be more visible without losing yourself. What felt like delay could have been cosmic preparation.

This week the emphasis shifts quickly.

On Wednesday the 22nd, the Sun enters Leo, the sign it rules. Jupiter has been in Leo since late June, its first visit in roughly twelve years, so the Sun enters a sign already carrying Jupiter’s themes of growth, confidence, opportunity, and scale.

For the rest of Leo season, the Sun and Jupiter occupy the same sign. This can amplify Leo themes such as creativity, visibility, leadership, pleasure, and self-belief. It can also magnify the pressure to be noticed. The question to ask yourself is not simply how to shine, but what you want your visibility to be in service of.

On Thursday the 23rd, Mercury stations direct. Communication, decisions, and plans may begin to move after three weeks of review, though the station itself can still feel slow or unclear. Notice what becomes easier to say. It may point to the issue, need, or conversation that the retrograde kept bringing back.

On Sunday the 26th, the lunar nodes move into Leo and Aquarius, beginning an approximately eighteen-month shift in eclipse themes. The South Node in Leo is often read as a review of familiar Leo shadow patterns like tying self-worth to attention, performing confidence, needing approval before expressing something, or leading from image rather than values.

This doesn’t mean we should be suppressing creativity or avoiding visibility. But rather, it asks whether your expression is grounded enough to hold more attention. With the Sun and Jupiter meeting in Leo a few days later, and Leo eclipses coming in August, visibility is likely to remain an important theme. Perhaps what we need to release is not the visibility itself, but the effort to manage how it is received.

On July 29, the Sun and Jupiter meet exactly in Leo. In traditional astrology, this is a Jupiter cazimi, or Jupiter “in the heart of the Sun.” It is a particularly warm and generous combination.

The Sun relates to vitality, purpose, and the courage to be seen. Jupiter relates to growth, faith, opportunity, and a sense of possibility. Together in Leo, they bring those qualities into the sign of creativity, self-expression, and joy. It can be a beautiful moment to remember: visibility does not have to come from striving. It can come from being connected to what you genuinely care about.

Tradition calls this one of the most fortunate days of the year. Launches. Declarations. Proposals. The things you begin under a cazimi carry its signature. Whatever you have been rehearsing all July, this is the day the curtain is up.

You’re not starting from nothing either. The reflection and revision of the past few weeks may have clarified what you want to bring forward, even if that work hasn’t been visible to other people yet.

Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are currently connected by supportive aspects, forming part of the broader Barbault Basket pattern. These slower planets are often associated with longer shifts in technology, collective ideals, and social systems. Their current relationship is actually suggesting more connection between innovation, imagination, and structural change than conflict between them.

While that doesn’t guarantee an outcome or remove the need for effort, it does suggest that this is a moment when personal expression can connect more easily with wider cultural and collective shifts.

Horse and Goat are also one of the six traditional branch combinations, so the month is relatively cooperative with the year rather than directly clashing with it. There’s more support for turning momentum into something tangible.

That’s why the central question is whether you’ll say what’s actually true for you, rather than the most polished version or the version most likely to be well received. Mercury’s retrograde may have returned you to the same feeling or conversation more than once. That repetition may have clarified what matters.

This week brings more visibility. It can help a clear message travel, but it also makes it harder to hide behind a rehearsed one. You don’t need to be impressive. You just need to be direct, honest, and willing to stand behind what you say.

Take up the space. It was already yours.
